Can this really be true, that the majority of people who have heard about shared ownership found out through word of mouth? Why is shared ownership information not readily available and why do the ones who know about it decide not to use it?
According to a survey, 28% of first-time buyers believe that the shared ownership mortgage would be more expensive than a traditional deal, 19% think that it is too complicated and 17% believe shared ownership isn't for people like them. 'There is a clear lack of awareness of shared ownership among the UK's first-time buyers and this needs to change,' according to Richard Fearon, CEO, of Leeds Building society.
