About me
To introduce myself, my name is Olivia, and I am 19 years old. In September 2023, I started my apprenticeship with RG Law as a Business Administration Apprentice. Fast forward to April 2025, and I’m proud to say I have completed my apprenticeship with a Distinction.

What is an apprenticeship?
It seems simple, an apprenticeship is learning while you work, but what does it actually entail? For me, I completed a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship, which involved a balance between studying and working. For the first 12 months, I had a full day each week dedicated to online learning sessions via Teams, alongside other apprentices who are also doing the course. I had a full day out of the office, dedicated to studying. You also get allocated to a tutor who helps to guide you through the process and help you when needed. After 12 months, I had one-to-one sessions with my tutor to help me to complete anything outstanding and get me ready to take my exams. The other 4 days of the week, I was in the office, gaining real work experience and applying what I learned in my studies to my role. It is a great mix of learning and on-the-job training.
How did I get here?
Like many others, I missed out a large chunk of my secondary school experience due to Covid, which left me in a position of having no idea what I wanted to do. I decided to stay on at Sixth Form and I chose three completely different subjects to give myself more of an idea of a career path that I might enjoy, I studied Business, Law and Childcare, all Level 3 BTEC’s. I achieved both Distinctions in Business and Childcare and a Distinction* in Law (this equivalates to A, A, A* in A-Levels). I also had a part-time retail job in alongside Sixth Form.
Initially, I thought I wanted a career in Law. I had some experience from a two-week work experience placement at a litigation law firm. From there, I started exploring apprenticeship opportunities within the legal sector.
Why I did an apprenticeship at RG Law?
I found RG Law offering a Business Administration Apprenticeship. When I researched RG Law, their commitment to developing their people stood out to me, it was clear they create a great environment for people wanting to learn and grow, and that was exactly the type of company I was looking for.
After 18 months of working at RG Law, I am so glad that I got the opportunity to complete my apprenticeship here, as well as start my professional career in this company. I have had (and continue to have) incredible amounts of support from everyone. Being part of a company where you truly feel valued, appreciated and important makes all the difference. I feel that my managers have really taken me under their wing and seen the dedication that I am willing to put in, so they are willing to put the same efforts into me. It also helps having the most supportive colleagues who are always available to help and share their knowledge.
Throughout my apprenticeship, I was offered experiences that I don’t think I would have had elsewhere. Some of the main ones that stand out to me are:
Attending multiple networking events and meeting local businesses
Representing RG Law at careers events in local schools
Attending the Negotiator Awards in November 2024
Joining training courses
Travelling to our York office to contribute to company-wide projects
One of the most useful parts of my apprenticeship was being able to gain experience across all of the different departments. Although I originally intended to pursue a legal career, exploring various roles helped me to discover new strengths and interests, I am now in a Sales and Marketing role.
When I first joined RG Law, I would never have thought that this would be where I ended up. Getting to experience working in different departments first-hand showed me that I had a creative side, which led me to be able to dive into Marketing. My confidence has grown massively too. I now feel comfortable talking to new colleagues, clients, and business partners, which helps me in the sales side.
My advice to a young person looking for an apprenticeship
At RG Law, we are not looking for someone with years of experience, or someone who is expected to know how to do everything. We are looking for someone that is willing to learn and try new things, is personable and wants to work hard. If you’re considering an apprenticeship, whether you know exactly what career you want, or you’re still figuring it out, I would 100% recommend it. An apprenticeship with RG Law gives you the chance to learn, grow, and build your skill set, all while being part of a supportive and welcoming team, and when the time comes for you to finish your apprenticeship, you are fully ready to start in your new role.
