Mock interviews for Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar school students

RG Law, specialising in conveyancing in Sidcup, is working with Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School to give students an opportunity to enhance their experience of the work place through the London East Enterprise Adviser Network, a voluntary organisation that links schools and businesses together. Helen Everett, Careers Leader and Governor at Chis & Sid arranged for a group of her students in year 13 looking for apprenticeship roles to take part in a serious of mock interviews to help prepare them for their future real-life interviews.

It wasn’t as scary as an Alan Sugar apprentice interview process, but RG did expect the students to arrive appropriately dressed, pass a numeracy and literacy test and explain succinctly the reasons behind choosing their A-level subjects. Finally, RG wanted to know what their aspirations for the future were and to give them 3 words that their teachers would use to describe them, this question instantly generated a smile from the students.

The pass mark for the numeracy and literacy test was 80% and all students passed, with two students achieving 100% in both tests. ‘All I can say is that they are amazing students and it was a pleasure to meet them’, said Jenny Offord, Cilex Legal Executive.

This initiative by the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, helps young people to obtain exposure to different types of careers. ‘I have found volunteering very rewarding and at times very challenging. The network gives me an opportunity to make a small difference not only to the students that attended our mock interviews this week but for the ongoing sharing of knowledge both for me and my colleagues. It’s nice to know we are doing more than just our jobs’, said Karen Marsh, Director.
